In today's market, having your piano restored is an alternative choice to buying a new expensive one. A correctly restored Antique piano's worth will mount up to 20 times the un-restored value. The following are procedures taken in a complete restoration, let’s start out with the CABINET - Step 1. Specialized measurements are taken, which are useful in rebuilding the piano to its original state. Step 2. The piano is meticulously disassembled and each cabinet part is stamped with its identification number. This ensures identification in the assembling procedure. Step 3. Strings, plate, pin-block and the action is detached. Step 4. All cabinet parts are hand stripped with a finish remover. Step 5. Cabinet and bridges are placed in a drying room where the moisture level is lowered prior to repair. Step 6. All wood surfaces are precisely inspected for damage and then properly repaired, prior to staining and sealing. Step 7. Wood surfaces are stained to the customer’s selection of wood tone, followed by multiple lacquer sealer coats and then ultimately by the final lacquer finish coats. Step 8. After final curing, finishers carefully hand-rub all cabinet parts to provide it the classic piano satin appearance. The PLATE - Step 1. Plate is inspected for any structural damage and/or cracks. Step 2. Plate is stripped and repaired if needed. Step 3. Plate is primed and color and lacquer finish is applied. Step 4. Serial numbers and logos are applied (matching originals). PINBLOCK - Step 1. Each piano comes with a brand new custom-made pinblock, made to factory specifications. SOUNDBOARD - Step 1. Initially, is to elect if to restore the existing soundboard of to change it with a custom duplicate. Step 2. In repairing an existing soundboard, any cracks or seams are routed out and a brand new piece of spruce shim is inserted. We then meticulously apply stain to best match its original look. Our replacement soundboards are Canadian made for Bolduc. STRINGS - Step 1. Each piano receives a custom new set of treble and bass strings. KEYTOPS - Step 1. Each piano receives a custom new set of keytops. Ebony’s are repaired if required and refinished in black satin. HARDWARE - Step 1. All hardware is polished to look like new. Or, if the customer chooses to, hardware can also be nickel plated for an addition charge. ACTION AND REGULATION - Step 1. After rebuilding the piano with new felt, a machine called "The Pounder" automatically plays all the white and black keys over and over again. Later, we can with assurance regulate the piano. This is a very lengthily process which includes many adjustments. The process is refined and repeated until the piano’s mechanism operates at topmost efficiency. TUNING - Piano is tuned at least 5 times prior to delivery.
